Mid-week update
I have busy enough the last two weeks that I am actually behind in posting about what I've been doing.
Last Tuesday, Other Kenjari and I went to the NEC student composers concert to hear
epilimnion's piece "Even If You Don't Want Me". It was quite well-performed, and is an awesome piece. Since I usually refrain from commenting on student pieces, I'll leave it at that. However, if epilimnion herself wants to add any commentary, feel free.
This Monday, I went to an organ concert featuring the premier of
sen_no_ongaku's piece "Transmigration". It was gorgeous. I've never heard anything quite like it for organ. Most organ music is very contrapuntal, but this was all about manipulating the timbral possibilities, such that the organist was playing the stops more than the keyboard. As an extra bonus, the organist also played some Messaien. I may be one of the few people in these parts who looks at an organ recital program and says to herself, "Cool! He's playing some Messaien!".
Last night, Other Kenjari and I went out with
hca, R., and
darmatage for dinner in the North End. Despite living in Boston for a whole semester, darmatage had never eaten in the North End. We also showed him where to get good cannolis and Italian cookies.
The resy of my week has been more than amply filled with finishing up my Christmas shopping, wrapping presents, and working on Under Earth.
